I’ve heard some pretty good stories about snowboarding or surfing, but I can’t think of a time I’ve heard an awesome story about sand boarding in the Sahara Desert. Yes, I’m talking about riding a board down a massive sand dune in western Africa. Anna Lisa De La Cruz, RN, and a friend recently had the chance to do this while they were in Morocco. And why would anyone pass up an opportunity like this? Their destination: the dunes of Erg Chebbi in eastern Morocco.
“We took camels into the desert, spent a night at an oasis, hiked to the top of a nearby dune to watch the sunrise, then sandboarded down it,” Anna Lisa said. “The setting was gorgeous, as the picture shows. I could not capture the size of the dune in the picture. It was immense.” The trip up the more than 600-foot-tall dune was a hike, but the trip down was quite a ride, akin to snowboarding. This was her first time to go sand boarding, and it was an awesome opportunity. Thank you Anna Lisa for sharing the pictures and your story. Pretty amazing! Anna Lisa has been a nurse for 4 1/2 years. If you have a great story like Anna Lisa’s that you’d like to share, you can submit it to firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks for sharing!
