Congratulations Elizabeth Portz, winner of The Right Solutions’ Carnival Cruise Giveaway! Elizabeth has been an RN for 24 years. Before becoming a nurse, she was majoring in finance. But she soon found out this wasn’t the career path for her. She was always the one who would care for others. And her family would often point this out. Also, her mother was a nurse. She was Elizabeth’s inspiration to become an RN. So she changed her major to pursue a nursing career.
Elizabeth attended Northwestern State in Shreveport, La. She graduated and earned her license in 1991. She worked at Tulane as a nurse for 23 years before she made the leap into travel nursing. “I always wanted to travel,” she said. She had the opportunity to travel when her daughter graduated from college.
Elizabeth’s first travel assignment was in Seattle. She made the most of the four-day journey to her assignment from her Louisiana home. She visited family in Texas and Kansas while on the way to Seattle. “Yes, I drove by myself,” she said. “I’ve been single for a long time.”
She worked a three-month assignment that ended just before the Travelers Conference in September. She attended the conference in Las Vegas to learn about travel nursing. “I loved it,” she said. “I learned a lot, met a lot of people and won a cruise.” She was able to go to several seminars. The one she was most interested in was about taxes for travelers. She would certainly go to the conference again. Thanks for sharing your story Elizabeth, and we look forward to hearing from you again soon! Enjoy the cruise!
