Donna Hignite Celebrates 10 Years at TRS Healthcare

Before coming to TRS Healthcare, Donna Hignite worked as a special education paraprofessional for 13 years—an experience she found very rewarding.

“I worked in the school district because I had kids in the school district. I wanted to be where my kids were. I loved helping and working with kids,” Donna says.

But once her kids were grown, she was ready for something new.

It was at this point that Donna’s long-time friend Kathie Henry, Director of Loss Prevention at TRS Healthcare, recommended she give healthcare staffing a try. Shortly after, she joined the TRS team, and she’s been with the company ever since.

“I’ve worn several different hats in my time with TRS,” says Donna, who started with the company in profile coordination, then moved on to work in accounting.

Currently, Donna is the Collections Manager for the company. In her role, she leads accounting efforts, ensuring bills are paid and that debt is minimized while maintaining client relationships.

“My day-to-day is basically making sure we get money in the door,” she explains. “The money comes in, but nobody really knows where it comes from. But that’s our role. We don’t expect praise. We just get it done.”

Overall, Donna finds her work—which she describes as somewhat behind-the-scenes—to be fulfilling. “When you see accounts that you don’t think will ever collect get current, there’s a lot of satisfaction in getting that done.”

As for what keeps her with TRS Healthcare, Donna says it’s all about the people.

“It’s like we’re a family,” she says. “Even though our team is remote, and we’re talking through a screen, it feels like we’re right there. We have a great rapport.”

Outside of her TRS family, Donna’s own family is at the core of everything she does. Spending time with her husband, two daughters, and eight grandchildren is her “something bigger.” She especially loves watching her grandchildren compete in sports.

When she’s not spending time with family, she can be found outside, biking, running, and generally staying active. In short, she describes herself as a “country girl, through and through.”

Overall, Donna is thrilled to have seen TRS Healthcare grow in her decade with the company. And, moving forward, she can’t wait to see it grow even more. In the meantime, she encourages her teammates to show up every day and do their best.

“Work hard at what you do, own your mistakes when you make them, and be proud of what you do,” Donna adds.
