The last ten years with TRS Healthcare have been nothing short of an incredible ride for Haylee Whalen, Director of Recruiting.
“I have really learned so much about myself through my journey at TRS,” she says.
Haylee joined the TRS Healthcare team after being referred by Senior Recruiter Shaunna Nastasi, whom she says is like a second mom to her. “Shaunna had started at TRS earlier in 2014 as a recruiter, and she thought I would really enjoy it here,” she adds.
Haylee started as a Profile Coordinator, assisting the Recruiting team in building profiles used to submit healthcare professionals for travel assignments. Then, one day, Kathie Henry, Director of Recruiting, contacted her about an open position with the Housing team.
“I had never thought about housing before, and I just thought, ‘Why not?’ It’s something different,” Haylee explains. “I took the chance and ended up staying in housing for three years.”
Haylee’s willingness to try new things made her the perfect candidate to spearhead a new dual role between the Housing and Credentialing departments. She quickly became a valued—and often-requested—team member for both.
“I had nurses telling their recruiters, ‘I only want Haylee to do my housing. I only want Haylee to do my credentials.’ I really enjoyed building those relationships, and it showed off in my work,” she says.
After her success with Housing and Credentials, Haylee was tapped to become part of the Recruiting team, where she leveraged her talent for building relationships.
As her career progressed, she ultimately wanted to grow into a leadership role. Just such an opportunity came in the form of a Team Lead role with the Profile Coordination (PC) team. Thanks to her experience in PC during her early days with TRS Healthcare and her ability to build rapport among team members, Haylee was able to develop and lead a successful team.
This success later led her to a role as Director of Continuous Improvement, where she helped create strategies focused on streamlining TRS Healthcare’s processes to reduce roadblocks and improve the overall experience for travel healthcare professionals.
Though Haylee enjoyed this role and being a part of the high-level conversations helping steer the direction of TRS Healthcare, she realized that it wasn’t just leadership and management she liked. What she truly enjoyed was working with people.
Finally, in 2022, Haylee returned to the recruiting side of TRS Healthcare as a Director of Recruiting, a role which has allowed her to blend her many talents, and her passions for leadership and people-focused work.
When asked what’s kept her at TRS Healthcare all these years, Haylee says it’s the culture.
“I found where I belong,” she says. “I am blessed to be able to get up every day and continue challenging myself and doing it alongside some of the best people I’ve ever met in my life. TRS has truly changed my life in ways I never imagined!”
Outside of work, Haylee is a mom to her 4-year-old daughter and enjoys spending as much time as possible with her. A plant enthusiast and avid cook, Haylee also loves exploring new hobbies and trying out different recipes.
